How to Change Nominee in Atal Pension Yojana Online

If you are an Atal Pension Yojana (APY) subscriber and want to update your nominee, it’s important to know how much can be done online and what requires a bank visit. Keeping nominee details up to date ensures your pension benefits reach the right person.

If you have an Atal Pension Yojana (APY) account and want to change the nominee who will get your pension money, the steps are simple. But it’s good to know what you can do online and when you’ll need to visit your bank.

1. Check your details

First, make sure you know your PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) and the bank account linked to your APY. Changing the nominee is allowed. Keep these handy: your PRAN, bank account details, ID proof, and the names and details of both the old and new nominees. If the nominee is a minor, you also need guardian details.

2. Download the form

You cannot do everything fully online yet. You have to download a form called “Application for Modification/Addition of Details in APY.” This form includes a part where you can change the nominee.

3. Fill the nominee section

In the form, find Section C. Here, write the new nominee’s name, date of birth (if the nominee is a minor, include the guardian’s details), relationship with you, and your marital status if your spouse is your default nominee.

4. Submit the form

After filling it out, submit the form and documents to the bank where your APY account is. Some banks may let you upload a scanned copy through internet banking, but usually, you still need to visit the branch.

5. Get acknowledgment and check the update

When you hand over the form, ask for a stamped receipt. It may take a few weeks for the bank to update your nominee details in the records. You can check the update in your PRAN statement or through your bank’s portal.

6. About online changes

Right now, you can download the form online and prepare documents digitally, but the final submission mostly needs a visit to the bank. The fully online nominee change option is not available yet.
