When you open a savings account with the India Post Payments Bank or a post-office savings account, you receive an account number and a Customer ID (also called CIF). The Customer ID is your unique profile number inside the system.

Why this Customer ID matters

  • It links all your post-office accounts (savings, RD, FD) under one profile.
  • You’ll use it for internet banking and mobile banking log-in.
  • It stays the same even if you open another account with the same branch.

Quick checklist – how to find your Customer ID

  • Check the first page of your passbook — Customer ID (CIF) printed near the top.
  • Open the mobile banking app → Profile/Account details — you’ll see the Customer ID.
  • Send SMS from your registered mobile: e.g., “GETCIF DDMMYYYY” to the bank-SMS number.
  • Visit your post-office branch with ID and ask for the Customer ID.
  • Look at your welcome kit or account opening documents — Customer ID will be listed.

Here’s an example

Say Anita opened a savings account at her local post office. Her account number is 1234567890 and her Customer ID is 9876543210. When she tried to activate mobile banking, the app asked for her Customer ID. She looked at her passbook and found 9876543210 — entered it and got logged in within minutes.
