Linking your Aadhaar to your Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) account is pretty simple and gives you peace of mind. Below you’ll find what you need, how to do it, and what happens if things go off track.

What you’ll need (quick checklist)

  • Your TNEB service connection number (check your bill).

  • Your Aadhaar number and the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

  • The mobile number registered in your TNEB account must match.

  • A one‑time password (OTP) will be sent to verify.

Step‑by‑step: link your Aadhaar

  1. Visit the official TNEB website and go to Online Services → Aadhaar ‑ Link your service connection number.

  2. Enter your service connection number, mobile number, captcha and hit ‘Enter’.

  3. Pick the correct status‑option (e.g., Owner, Tenant, NRI relative) then enter your Aadhaar and consent.

  4. Tap ‘Send OTP’. On your mobile you will get an OTP—enter it to complete the process.

  5. You’ll get a confirmation SMS once the linking is approved. To check later, go to Bill Status and enter your connection number + mobile.

Example: tenant linking

Raj lives in a rented flat. His name isn’t on the electricity bill, but he still needs to link Aadhaar. He selects “Tenant” in the status dropdown, enters his Aadhaar, gets the OTP, and within 10 minutes the link shows “Completed”. He now pays bills online without hassle.

Why it matters

  • You’ll qualify for subsidies or free first 100 units (if available).

  • It helps remove duplicate connections and protects the system.

Without completing it, you may get blocked from online bill payment.

FAQ
