For proposals signed outside India (Mail order business), witness is mandatory as mentioned below;

Proposal form has to be completely filled in Insured’s handwriting and needs to be witnessed after verification of the proposer. Below mentioned can witness the proposal form:

  • Designated Local Indian Embassy representative/Indian diplomatic representative
  • Notary Public or Justice of peace
  • Medical Examiner
  • Authorized signatory of insured’s employer (only if belongs to a reputed firm)
  • For students, the principal or dean of the college where he/she is studying can witness
  • Witness must affix his clear seal below the signature
  • Photocopy of the passport’s first page must also be witnessed by same person and provided with proposal form
  • Medical examination should be done by a qualified medical examiner and medical expenses should be borne by the insured. Medical examination format should be in the Shriram Life format only
  • Only employees of reputed commercial firms, students going for higher studies or professionals such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc can be allowed through mail order

Documents required for Mail Order Business

  • Proof of occupation, income proof / student ID card & admission letter from university/college in case of students
  • NRE/NRO account
  • Recent passport size colour photograph
  • ID proof
  • Address proof of India
  • Complete Indian passport copy with all entities (Customer signed on all pages)
  • NRI Questionnaire

Minor lives Guidelines

Minor lives also can  be insured subject to underwriting. 

Other restrictions: 

  • For NRI/OCI lives, Maximum cover allowed is 10 crores SAR, if country is standard 
  •  Maximum cover allowed is 2 crores SAR for rateable countries. 
  • Mail order business is allowed maximum upto 1crore SAR for standard countries.  Video MR is mandatory in every mail order case along with applicable medical grid. 
  • For rateable countries, maximum SAR allowed under mail order is 50 lakhs with complete grid medicals along with Video MR. No Enhanced NML or NRI NML applicable

FAQ's

Are there any specific premium payment options available for NRIs in Shriram Life Insurance plans?

The premium payment options remain the same for NRIs in Shriram Life Insurance Plans. The NRI has to ensure they have a NRI bank account to be able to make the required premium payments

What happens if an NRI policyholder returns to India permanently? Will the insurance policy still be valid?

If an NRI returns to India permanently before the maturity of the plan, the coverage will continue till the end of the policy tenure. 

Are NRIs eligible for tax benefits on premiums paid for Shriram Life Insurance plans?

Tax benefits are available on premiums for NRIs if they have paid the required amount of premiums for the Shriram Life Insurance plan.

Are NRIs allowed to convert their existing policies from Indian currency to foreign currency in Shriram Life Insurance plans?

An NRI cannot convert their existing policies from Indian currency to foreign currency in Shriram Life Insurance plans.

The Shriram Life Insurance Company website has customer support that is available for all customers. NRIs can use the customer care number listed on the website to get the help they need.
